ENERGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Illegal refineries has been the bane of the Niger Delta region and is responsible for environmental degradation, pollution and crude oil waste by-products because they cannot be harnessed in their proper form. The consequences of these have lead to fires, violence in the community and even starvation because people unable fish due to the pollution.

Millions is spent on security in trying to stop illegal refineries operating, however we can turn this to job/wealth creation for government and local communities. Once we push for proper licensing and regulation, it will stop being a problem but a solution to many of the problems within the Niger Delta

It seems setting up illegal refineries is a culture that continue to rapidly growing, my agreement is that we legalise bunkary. After all it is a simple business module, they steal the oil and refine the products, proving this service in the community because the oil majors do no provide that service. There is another way out of this pollution, and we need to stop shooting Nigerians who are trying to make a living from what we consider an illegal activity. Since they have a business module we can create an environment where they can borrow money from the bank to set a modularly refinery (cost)

NMPC can provide crude oil at a subsidised rate to let them refine it and then sell it to the local communities so they have access to the products they produce. After all it is on their soil, and this movement would be an incentive for them to stop destroying the pipes.

Once we push for proper licensing and regulation, it will stop being a problem but a solution to many of the problems within the Niger Delta.

It will create jobs for our youths
Increase government income through taxation
Help increase income of communities and individuals involved.
Help reduce the spate of environmental pollution and degradation through proper monitoring and inspection.
It will help eliminate or reduce the feel of undue exploitation prevailing among the host communities.
Help eliminate the mutual suspicions and hostilities existing between the Federal Government, Oil Operators and the Host Communities.

TRANSPORTATION

The Urban economy accounts for about 70-80% of the Nigerian GDP, and one of the main reasons for the widespread of poverty in the country is because we keep spending large proportion of our income between 40-70%) on transportation, which is high in comparison to an international standard of about 20-25%.

Therefore the Federal government needs to subsidies public transport (PT) fares in Nigerian cities by 50%. We currently spend 50-70% of our incomes on transportation. Other countries around the work subsidies transport fares from 34% in South Africa to 49% in the UK, and 70% in Brazil. Subsidizing the poor can reduce poverty, and this would ensure the reduction of our transport cost to 50% of the current spend on the transportation framework.

LET THERE BE LIGHT CAMPAIGN

This campaign goes beyond an individual. We are seeking a billion dollars for the let there be light campaign, which would be used for the following

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

$100 million dollars will be used for research and development in universities of science and technology so that they can invent future technologies.

SECURITY

$200 million dollar will be used to provide police station and electric motor cycles and a training program for the police, so that we can police the poor. There’s too much violence on the street and we need neighbourhood policemen and women.

You cannot deregulate petroleum without setting in place a robust transport policy.

SOLAR ENERGY

$700 million dollars will be allocated to supplying solar panels and inverters for the entire country, starting with Baylesa-east-senatorial district.

We will encourage manufacture to make the solar panels and batteries in Nigeria. At least 85% should be manufactured in Nigeria and (not assembled).

We would like the federal government to create a directorate of the “let there be light” campaign and we will ask that these products are made available for free for poor home. So every poor home can have electricity to listen to radio, watch television, and kids can read and work on schoolwork at night.

In addition each state will employ 5,000 people for maintenance. After 3 months each home will pay a small amount for the maintenance and salary to pay 5,000 trained individuals. The prices of the solar panel will be advertised and an upright Nigeria will be appointed to carry out this project.
